PERU, NE - The Peru State women's basketball team beat the Culver-Stockton Wildcats 67-60 at home in their final game of 2023. The Bobcats are now 3-5 in the Heart of America Conference and 6-7 overall.
 
The Bobcats had a slow start in the first quarter, letting the Wildcats take a 9-3 lead. Back to back layups by Kaylan Larry and a shot behind the arch by Olivia Williams (Sr., Minneapolis, MN) gave the Bobcats the lead. A final shot by Samantha Stewart (Sr., Mount Ayr, IA) and a nine-point quarter from Kaylan Larry (Sr., Little Rock, AR) finished the first for the Bobcats strong, as they led 16-11.
 
Hailey Ingram (Jr., Omaha, NE) started out the second quarter for the Bobcats with a layup. Kaylan Larry had back to back 3-pointers to help the bobcats continue to push back on the Wildcats. The Bobcats led 34-17 going into halftime with Kaylan Larry leading with 16 points and Samantha Stewart having seven rebounds.
 
Coming out of the half, the Bobcats had a slow quarter. Shots by Kaylan Larry, Sam Stewart and a final 3-pointer by Maddy Duncan (Sr., Hamburg, IA) helped the Bobcats to keep their lead into the fourth quarter, 44-35.
 
In the final quarter of the game, Kaylan Larry dropped 14 points for the Bobcats. The team fought throughout the half to continue their lead over the Wildcats as they were able to hold them back and take the win 67-60.
 
Kaylan Larry had a huge game for the Bobcats with 35 points for the Bobcats also adding eight rebounds. Samantha Stewart had 13 points with 10 rebounds. Maddy Duncan had eight points with Olivia Williams being close behind with five points and four rebounds.
 
Next: The Bobcats will take on Graceland University in their first game of the new year on January 3 at home. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
