Syracuse Takes Flight After Halftimes for Sweep of Pioneers
SYRACUSE, NE - The Rockets' basketball teams had more fuel than the Pioneers as Syracuse swept a home doubleheader against Nebraska City on Tuesday, December 12. The Syracuse girls grabbed a 59-32 win before the boys followed with a 66-44 victory.
In the girls' contest, Nebraska City led 15-14 after the opening quarter, but Syracuse held the Pioneers to just 17 points for the rest of the game. The Pioneers were led by Tarryn Godsey's game-high 18 points. She did most of her damage at the free throw line, going 10/14 there. The Rockets were just 10/21 at the charity stripe as a team. Kadyn Sisco hit her FT's for Syracuse, going 6/7 and leading the squad with 15 points. Jayden Meyer & Eva Brammier each added twelve in the win.
The boys' game saw Nebraska City go into the break with a five-point deficit, 32-27, but Syracuse pulled away after intermission. Sophomore stars were everywhere in this one. Sophomore Max Parde led Syracuse with 18 points, and his fellow sophomore & teammate Will Janssen hit four three-pointers to reach 16 points. For NC, sophomore Kaiden Klassen was the lone player in double-digits with 15.
Nebraska City's ladies fell to 1-4 with the loss, while Syracuse improved to 3-2. For the guys, the Pioneers are now 2-3, and the Rockets move to 3-2. Syracuse will head to Elmwood-Murdock on Thursday, while Nebraska City crosses the border for a DH against Council Bluffs-Thomas Jefferson in Iowa on Thursday.
