EAGLE – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports a toddler was killed in a pedestrian accident Sunday afternoon.

A sheriff’s office press release says two-year-old Whit J. Richards of Eagle was riding a small toddler bicycle on E Street in Eagle and was involved in an accident as he entered the intersection of south Sixth Street.

A Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 76-year-old man, also from Eagle, was traveling north on South Sixth Street and struck the toddler.

Despite the efforts of Whit J Richards' father and several bystanders who attempted lifesaving measures at the scene, Whit was transported to a hospital in Lincoln where he was later pronounced deceased.

The press release says the investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing however, alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
