ELMWOOD-MURDOCK, NE - The Auburn Bulldogs girls basketball team fell at Elmwood-Murdock, 33-22, where the Bulldogs' offense could never get going. The Bulldogs were paced by Sydney Binder scoring 11 points, with two three-pointers. The Knights were led by Tatum Backemeyer, who dropped 15 points with a couple of three-pointers as well.

Elmwood-Murdock jumped out to a 13-8 halftime lead, where Auburn created a ton of turnovers, but the Bulldogs struggled on the defensive boards. Annie Backemeyer consistently grabbed offensive boards, along with Brooke Goudie. Auburn’s offense could never get going, getting minimal shot attempts up as they tried to work inside with Zoe Baltenspeger.

Auburn struggled to keep up with the fast-paced Elmwood-Murdock transition offense, which is where the Knights feasted. In the end, Auburn ran out of steam, although a couple of late threes by Lesly Garcia for the Bulldogs got them back into the game.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 with a matchup on Saturday at Plattsmouth at 4:00 pm. For Elmwood-Murdock, they advance to 3-0 and play David City on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

 

Thanks to a huge 24-point third quarter, the Auburn Bulldogs beat the Elmwood-Murdock Knights with a score of 57-35 in the boys' game. Auburn’s defense reigned supreme once again, as pre-game comments from Jackson Weeks signaled that the defense is a major coaching point for the Bulldogs.

Auburn jumped out to a quick start with a 14-7 first quarter lead, where Maverick Binder and Cam Leslie were the leading scorers on the night for the Bulldogs. Binder finished the night with 21 points with two three-pointers and a couple of And-1s as well. The Bulldogs were able to contain Aidan Schmidt, the 6’8" junior center, as he only scored six points and tallied four rebounds.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs jumped out on top with 24 points, getting out to a 45-24 lead. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never let it go, as the Knights were never able to gain a rhythm on the offensive end.

Auburn jumps out to a 2-0 start, as they play at Plattsmouth at 7:00 pm Saturday night. For Elmwood-Murdock, they fall to 0-3 and head to David City to play at 4:00 pm Saturday afternoon.
