Shenandoah Sweeps Sidney in Iowa High School Hoops Doubleheader

SHENANDOAH, IA - The Shenandoah Mustangs swept the visiting Sidney squads in early-season high school hoops action Thursday, December 7. The Mustang ladies dominated in a 68-26 decision before the Shenandoah boys snagged a 75-54 win. The Mustang girls are now 3-3, while Sidney has a mark of 1-3; and on the guys' side, Shenandoah is 1-4 as the Cowboys drop to 1-3.
In the opener, Shenandoah jumped out to a 22-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in the 68-26 win. The host squad held a 22-7 advantage in turnovers & out-shot the visiting Cowgirls overall, 51-29%. The Mustangs saw four players score in double figures. Lynnae Green hit for 13 points, Caroline Rogers dropped in a dozen, and both Chloe Denton & Kylie Foutch tossed in ten. Sidney's Lilly Peters led her team with eight points.
In the boys' game, Shenandoah won each quarter by a margin of 1-8 points, building the lead throughout the contest in a 75-54 victory over Sidney. The Mustangs hit 49% from the floor, while the Cowboys connected on 34%. Shenandoah was led by freshman Joey O'Rourke's 17 points. Jade Spangler was right behind with 16, and Camden Lorimor finished with 14. For Sidney, Michael Hensley was impressive with 16 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Fellow Cowboy Kolt Payne was just short of a double-double with twelve points and nine boards.
Shenandoah will host Essex in another doubleheader tonight (Friday), while Sidney will host Griswold this evening.
