OMAHA, Neb. -- A woman shot and hit a man with a metal pipe in Omaha after he reportedly tried to assault her.

The Omaha Police Department said officers were sent to the 4800 block  of N 131st St. at 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a sexual assault. The call was later upgraded to a shooting.

Officers said they found a man at the scene with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man reported that he was also hit in the head with a metal pipe.

According to authorities, the man was taken to a nearby hospital for his non-life threatening injuries. 

Police said they talked to a woman at the scene and she reported being involved in a physical altercation with the man.

According to the woman, the man tried to strangle her and she shot him at that moment.

The investigation is ongoing.
