AUBURN - Auburn Arts and Events is asking residents to be on the lookout for vandals after the latest damage to the community art sculpture Bee-casso.

In a letter to the community, Leslie Clark said she is disheartened and saddened by the vandalism.

She said it is not only a blow to the artistic spirit but disrespectful to so many who worked to create something for the whole community to enjoy.

Clark: “Our art installations are not just structures; they are expressions of creativity and sources of joy for visitors and community members alike.”

She said the community needs to stand together to preserve and protect artistic treasures.

Honeybees in the Heartland is inspired by Auburn teacher Mrs. Louise Howe and her third grade class that launched a campaign to make the honeybee Nebraska’s state insect.

The public art project features 27 unique sculptures painted by a variety of artists. Bee-casso is by artist Terry Van Gundy and located at 419 Q St. It is sponsored by Black Hills Energy and Magnolia Metal.
