Benning calls on Nebraska's 'go 1-0' culture

NEBRASKA CITY- Husker Radio Network Analyst Damon Benning told the capacity Big Red Buzz crowd at Valentino’s Restaurant in Nebraska City Tuesday that the culture being established by head football coach Matt Rhule is well suited for Friday’s game against Iowa.
Coach Rhule has noted that Nebraska has not done well down the stretch in years past when its looks outside of going 1-0 this week. He emphasizes a focus on the next play or the next game.
In October, defensive lineman Ty Robinson told the media that the concept of going 1-0 each week is a big part of Coach Rhule’s process. In announcing his plan Tuesday to return to the Huskers next year, Robinson said the opportunity to train this winter and spring under Coach Rhule’s program was a factor in his decision.
Benning said the last game of the season, at home and against Iowa should have the team’s focus and should fit well with the ‘go 1-0 this week’ culture.
Benning: “The culture is everything about the next play, the next game. Well this is the next game. There’s no looking ahead. There’s no more, ‘win one more of the next four’ or ‘get one of the next three.’ This is it.”
Benning was asked about Nebraska’s ability to compete in the Big 10 next year.
- Nebraska is not on shaky ground
