SIDNEY – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reports a Nov. 9 traffic stop in connection with a Nebraska theft that resulted in a foot pursuit of suspects.

A sheriff’s office press release says deputies made a traffic stop where 38-year-old Santa Montenegro Sardina of St. Joseph, Mo., fled the vehicle on foot near mile marker 6 on Interstate 29.

A drone team from Mills County and a Glenwood K9 unit  joined the Iowa State Patrol in tracking Sardina, who was concealed in a field and taken into custody.

The driver, Jean Lesyan Mirball Scull, 27, of Lenexa, Kan., was initially placed under arrest at the scene.

The press release says he was able to escape the patrol car and also fled on foot while handcuffed.

He was not located that evening but the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office reported Nov. 10  a man walking near Phelps City wearing handcuffs.

The Fremont County K9 unit assisted in locating Mirball walking south of Langdon, Mo.

He fled again into a field but was apprehended by a Fremont County deputy.
