Recalled trustees named to village duties in Brownville
Chairman Hayes nominates Kim Johnson for remaining board seat vacated by recall election
BROWNVILLE – Former Brownville Village Board of Trustees members, who were removed by a recall election in October, have new roles in the village.
Following a six-minute executive session at Monday’s village board meeting, Chairman Martin Hayes announced former trustee Natisha Winkelman was named the deputy city clerk and former trustee Terry Vice was named parks superintendent.
Hayes also announced he will nominate Kim Johnson to fill a vacancy at the board for approval at the next board meeting. Colleen Volkmer was sworn in Monday for the other vacancy.
At Monday’s meeting the board received complaints from some citizens attending regarding the handling of the closed session.
Prior to the closed session, citizen John Lauber said he has expressed to Hayes his interest in being appointed to the village board.
Later in the meeting, Chairman Hayes was berated over dust on Seventh Street.
Hayes met with Nemaha County commissioners Nov. 8 and said Monday the county commissioners would discuss grading issues with the Brownville resident.
The resident told Hayes Monday it is not a county matter. He said the speed limit on Seventh Street is a joke, “you’re a joke.” “You are worthless.”
He referenced a load of rock that he says was not applied to the street.
Resident: “I can tell you’re lying because your mouth is moving,” “You don’t know or you are too dumb to know.”
Chairman Hayes tried to move on to the next agenda item.
Resident: “I have five minutes. Who said I was finished?” “You’re phony.” “You’re counterfeit.”
The presence of a Nemaha County sheriff’s deputy had been requested at the meeting.
