OMAHA, Neb. -- Prison time was given to an Omaha man following his child pornography conviction.
Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 53-year-old Richard Knight, of Omaha, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Wednesday. He was convicted for possession of child pornography. Knight will serve 210 months in prison with a 15-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal system. Knight has to pay restitution in the amount of $3,000 and is required to register as a sex offender.
According to court documents, an officer with the Omaha Police Department responded to a radio call of found property by a resident on Curtis Avenue on June 29, 2021. Knight was living at the home between May 2, 2021, and June 29, 2021, and a white 2011 Forrest River camper trailer was parked at the residence.
Officials said they searched the home and trailer. A digital hard drive was found in the trailer, which was owned by Knight. The homeowner also gave the officer a phone belonging to Knight found in the garage of the home.
Authorities state that a search warrant was used for the digital hard drive and phone. Forensic review of the devices found images and videos of minors, some under the age of 12, engaging in sexually explicit conduct. There were also several images and personal information on the devices confirming Knight’s ownership of both.
Knight was convicted on March 14, 1997, of first-degree sexual abuse in Oregon. Knight was also on federal supervised release for failing to register as a sex offender when the instant offense occurred.
This case was investigated by OPD.
