Load of steel dumps onto highway
Truck driver swerved to avoid collision at Union intersection

UNION - The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports a shutdown of Highway 75 Thursday after a freight truck lost is load near the Highway 34 intersection at Union.
The report says 24-year-old Colin Huskey of Lamar, Iowa, was driving a Peterbilt and pulling a flatbed semi-trailer south on Highway 75. As Huskey approached the intersection, he observed a vehicle traveling east on Highway 34. The sheriff says Huskey thought there would be collision so he took evasive actions causing the trailer’s load to shift.
The straps broke and 45,000 pounds of 1/8 inch steel sheets dumped onto the highway.
The clean-up process caused southbound traffic to be closed for about three and a half hours.
