Weeping Water Wins Back and Forth Battle Over Thayer Central in First Round Playoff Action

WEEPING WATER, NE - The Indians defeated the Titans, 34-28, in a classic matchup last Thursday night.
The first round contest in the Class D1 State Football Playoffs gave a preview of what's to come in October and November. Thayer Central took a quick 6-0 lead on their first drive. Sam Souerdyke was in the wildcat formation heavily on the drive & throughout the night. Weeping Water responded quickly with a long Riggs Wilson touchdown run that made it 6-6. The teams exchanged touchdowns again, but Thayer Central held a halftime lead of 14-12.
Wilson broke off a 65-yard TD run coming out of halftime to give Weeping Water a 20-14 advantage. After Thayer Central stalled on its next drive, Wilson plunged into the end zone from just a yard out to build the Indians' lead to 26-14. Sam Souerdyke cut the deficit back to a single score with a one-yard TD carry of his own, making it 26-20.
After a few scoreless drives, Thayer Central hopped back on top 28-26 on another Souerdyke TD, this time with only two minutes to play. Weeping Water would not be denied, however, as Sayler Rhodes scored from 20 yards out to put the Indians into the second round of the postseason with the 34-28 win.
