John Byron Tyner, age 86 of Cameron, MO passed at home in Cameron Missouri, wife Dottie at side. John spent his youth on a farm in southwest Iowa and met his future wife Dottie while attending Tarkio College to study journalism. John married Dottie King in 1958. Never a fan of farming, John and Dottie together found a way to grow into entrepreneurs and started his own businesses of clipping cattle with people such as Bob Nenneman, Sidney, IA; Roger Efferz, Velda, N.D., & Roger Jacobs, Regent, N.D.  and his daughters, and eventually migrated into starting another cattle business (Tyner Sales Management) managing pedigree angus cattle sales across the United States. As we reflected on his success, it all began with Ridgeline Angus herd when they had their own production sales in the early 70’s.  John Tyner had a policy of running his cattle sales, so the breeder got his undivided attention. No one bought more cattle on order or had a bigger following in those days than John Tyner.  That was because he always knew what a “good one” needed to look like.  He would describe the cattle accurately and he would spend the buyers’ money like it was his own.  He set a great example and his place in Angus history won’t soon be forgotten.

The two of them eventually achieved a lifelong goal to relocate to God’s country in Minnesota. There they continued their cattle business and enjoyed the relationships of the cattlemen’s community, forging lifelong friendships and a lasting reputation of integrity and excellence with the Angus Association and its members.

As life slowed down, John enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and followed them through the good and bad seasons. Fishing, fishing and more fishing filled his days. Gardening was a way to stay attached to the days on the farm and he took pride in how much he could pack into a 4x8 garden bed. John’s passion though was always near the water whether from the bank or from his boat. Introduced to fishing by his father, Jack and good friend Fred Mezick, he couldn’t wait to get out with his fishing friends or on his own on one day jaunts to Bowstring or up to Lake of the Woods ice fishing with his grandsons. Despite all those fishing trips, John reveled in the opportunity to share his love for the sport and old fishing stories with his children and grandchildren. The trips to Minnesota with his family to the cabin on Bowstring Lake for years were the highlight of every summer.

Most importantly, John and Dottie built a family of which they are very proud. Their 3 children in return gave them 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, countless gray hairs, many, many wrinkles and of course loads of good times and memories. John’s legacy beyond the farming, cattle sales management and even the bonds of his many friendships remain his family. Though losing John will leave an obvious void, he has left behind his greatest achievement, and everyone can rest assured he is now content and likely keeping a vigilant eye until ultimately, we reunite.

John was preceded in death by Jack and Dorothea (Dot) Tyner, Granddaughter Annalee Schott.
