OMAHA, Neb. -- Authorities in Omaha are investigating a homicide that happened Wednesday night. 

The Omaha Police Department said that it happened in the 3700 block of Grand Ave. on shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday. 

OPD officers said they got a call to the area for multiple ShotSpotter activations. 

Officials said Gang Unit officers were responding to the call when they reportedly saw a Chevrolet Tahoe leaving the area. 

The vehicle was found by patrol officers near 31st and Sorensen Parkway, and the officers reportedly initiated a pursuit. 

Shortly after the pursuit started, the call to Grand Ave. was upgraded to a shooting. 

Officers said the pursuit ended in the area of N 41st and Spaulding Streets. 

The two people in the vehicle were taken into custody and transported to Omaha Police Headquarters to be interviewed. 

Police said the victim was identified as 19-year-old Dontayzhia Swift of Omaha. She was taken to UNMC with life saving measures in progress. 

Swift was later pronounced dead at the hospital. 

OPD said they arrested 28-year-old Markel Devers for accessory to murder and flight to avoid arrest related to the incident. 

Authorities said they found a 16-year-old boy during the pursuit search and arrested him for minor in possession of a gun, CCW without ID, and CCW disclose. It is still being investigated whether this individual is involved in the homicide investigation.
