JOHNSON - The seventh-ranked Johnson-Brock Eagles went on the road to take on 10-ranked Bruning Davenport Shickley Friday night. The JB Eagles, currently 5-0, were looking to take the momentum from a big win against Nebraska City Lourdes the week before into a hostile, tough environment of the BDS Eagles.
The first touchdown occurred with less than 5 minutes to go in the first quarter on a 64-yard pass from QB Sloan Pelican to WR Chase VanWinkle. The Eagles converted the 2-pt conversion, to take the lead 8-0.
On the next JB possession, they were able to drive the length of the field to set up a touchdown run by Pelican. The 2-pt conversion was not successful. JB added another touchdown before BDS made one of their own before halftime. JB would take the lead 20-6 going into the half.
The JB Eagles leaned solely on the run game in the second half. Running back, Hayden Gravatt, finished the game with 7 carries for 42 yards, while Pelican contributed 7 carries for 38 yards. Freshmen, Wyatt Fulton, also gained 42 yards on 3 carries for Johnson-Brock.
Pelican finished the game 6-12 passing, for 215 yards, which all took place in the first half.
Johnson-Brock's defense put on a phenomenal performance Friday night. For being undersized, the JB Eagles found success in stopping BDS' run game. Gravatt ended the night with 15 total tackles, Pelican and VanWinkle each had 10 of their own. Lleyton Behrends and Zac Hawley also added 9 and 8 tackles, respectively, and together, were responsible for causing a BDS fumble with a JB recovery in the 2nd half.
BDS falls to 4-2 on the season, while JB improves to 6-0. JB will host FCSH this Friday night, as it marks the last home regular season game.
