SERVICE INFORMATION:

Raquel Antoinette Ojeda - Powell, 33, of Shenandoah, Iowa, and formerly of Nebraska City, Nebraska, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Open viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.  The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation and viewing from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.  Cremation will take place following.  A celebration of life memorial service for Raquel will take place on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 10:30 am at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service.  Inurnment will take place following the service at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City, Nebraska.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are being directed to the Raquel Ojeda-Powell Memorial Fund to establish a trust for her daughters' (Alexandria, Amelia and Bristol) college education funds. 

OBITUARY:

Raquel Antoinette Ojeda-Powell, daughter of Peter Anthony Ojeda, Jr, and Soledad "Solie" (Pineda) Peterson, was born on December 29, 1989, in West Covina, California. She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 33 years, 8 months, 9 days, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Her early life was spent growing up in La Puente, California until the age of nine. In 1999, Raquel moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska. Nearly a year later, she moved to the east coast, residing in Chesapeake, Virginia for five years. At the beginning of her freshman year, Raquel returned to Nebraska City and graduated from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 2008.

Raquel moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, in her early adult life and worked her way up to become the assistant store manager of Orscheln Farm and Home the last two years. She loved her job and especially her work family.

On March 29, 2023, Raquel was united in marriage to Derek Lee Powell in Shenandoah, Iowa. They made their home in Shenandoah. Raquel was blessed with two girls, Alexandria and Amelia, and became a mother to Bristol. She found joy in creating special memories with her girls by organizing movie theme nights, spa days with makeovers, baking and crafting. Raquel loved family game nights on any occasion, as there was lots of laughter to be had while playing card games, and board games. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, especially Diamond Art and DIY projects. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Halloween. She enjoyed fall festivities such as visiting Vala’s Pumpkin Patch with her girls and faithfully attending the Applejack Festival annually. 

Preceding Raquel in death were her grandparents, Rebeca C. Pineda, Pete Ojeda Sr., Antoinette Ojeda and Sandra Straw; and sister-in-law, Brittany Powell. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Derek Powell; daughters, Alexandria Rae Wanek, Amelia Jane Wanek and Bristol Powell; mother, Solie Peterson and her husband Louie; father, Pete A. Ojeda Jr, and his wife Kathryn; grandfather, Margarito Pineda; stepbrother, Roger (Megan) Peterson; stepsister, Christy Peterson; mother and father-in-law, Bryanna and Jim Prudhome; father-in-law, Louis Powell; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that loved her dearly.
