Nemaha NRD discusses sale of Prairie Owl

TECUMSEH -- The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors met Sept. 14 in Tecumseh.
Tim Schaardt was appointed to fill the board vacancy in subdistrict 10. Applications to fill vacancies in subdistricts 4 and 9 will continue to be accepted and will be considered at the October 12th meeting.
The well permit application brought forward to the Board was approved for JTHN Farms (Lancaster).
Flow meter cost-share rates were discussed but no action was taken at this time.
The Board discussed the potential sale of Prairie Owl Recreation Area. No action was taken.
The Board discussed Farm Bureau’s Policy Development Guide regarding NRD taxing authority.
The fiscal year 2024 budget and resolution setting the property tax request was approved. This year’s levy increased slightly from 0.029532 to 0.029996 per $100/valuation. Rehab of aging watershed structures accounts for a significant portion of the expenditures.
