CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Peru State volleyball fell to the Mount Mercy Mustangs in three sets Friday night. The Bobcats are now 5-6 overall and 0-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs are 8-3 overall and 1-0 in Heart Conference play.

Below is a breakdown of how the match went…

In the first set, Mount Mercy held a 10-4 lead before the Bobcats would claw their way back into the set. Peru State went on a 6-1 run to cut Mount Mercy's lead to one trailing 11-10. Kills by Kalyssa Fox (Casa Grande, Ariz.)Keiley Hein (Omaha)Elli Williams (Olathe, Kan.)Reagan Osterhaus (Wetmore, Kan.) and a couple attack errors aided the Bobcats run.

The Mustangs were able to extend their lead out back to six up 17-11 before the Bobcats would get back within two trailing 17-15 after a couple of errors from the Mustangs and kills from Addison Schneider (Humphrey) and Erison Vonderschmidt (Falls City).

Mount Mercy ended the first set on an 8-3 run winning the set 25-18. The Bobcats and the Mustangs were all tied up in the second set at six, then Mount Mercy extended its lead out by five going on a 7-2 run up 13-8.

The Mustangs flexed their muscle as they finished the second on a 13-3 run winning the second set 25-11. Mount Mercy started out hot in the third set carrying the momentum over as they were leading 10-2.

Peru State then would close the gap, going on an 8-3 run trailing 13-10. Contributing to the run were kills by Addison Schneider and Hein. The Mustangs then went on a 9-2 run to take a commanding 22-12 lead in the third. The Bobcats would score three more points from a couple errors and kill from Vonderschmidt but would lose the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.

Vonderschmidt and Osterhaus led the team in kills with five apiece. Rylee Hellbusch (Plattsmouth) led the team in assists with ten and Chantal Paniagua (Santo Domingo, D.R.) had a team-high 11 digs.

Peru State continues its upper Iowa road trip with a Saturday matinee vs. Clarke in Dubuque, Iowa. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
