Pancakes, two meats new for 10th Otoe Barbecue
OTOE – New events at the 2023 Otoe Barbecue included breakfast by the pancake man to open the vendor fair at the community building and hundreds of pounds of beef for the barbecue dinner in the evening.
The Better Ba-Cs 4-H Club volunteered to help with the breakfast. The barbecue committee said that sort of volunteerism is needed to put on the annual event.
Wyatt Hutchison had his smoker at sunrise Saturday to satisfy a new menu. The barbecue, which drew a crowd of 1,400 in 1967 for the Otoe Centennial Parade, was revived 10 years ago.
Hutchison said it has always featured pork, but this year they cooked 200 pounds of pork and 200 pounds of beef.
