City wants time to review river land lease
Stigge says 1930s lease mentions right-of-way access to the Missouri River
NEBRASKA CITY – City commissioners tabled Karen Stigge’s request for right-of-way access to her land north of Nebraska City after Stigge mentioned an original deed that mentioned access to the Missouri River.
Lowlands south of 62nd Road near Walnut Creek have been a source of some contention since the city approved a hunting lease with Justin Walters.
Stigge requested the access effective in August of 2025 when the lease with Walters is up for renewal.
The parcel has been in the Frank Ramold family since the 1930s and Stigge said Ramold was under the impression there was a way to access the property. She said an original deed mentions right-of-way access through the land to the Misssouri River.
Mayor Byran Bequette said the city attorney had provided the city with options it might take regarding her request, but he wants the attorney to see a copy of the original deed she mentioned to see if it will change the recommended options.
In other action, the city council approved the Pioneers’ homecoming parade route on Sept. 29.
The 20-minute parade will go from 14th to Fifth street.
