Ruth Elizabeth Johnson, age 86 of Nehawka died September 2, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  Ruth was born April 5, 1937 in Avoca, the daughter of Albert H. and Clara Elizabeth Mary (Parker) Bruns.  Ruth attended Kenosha Rural School, Philpot Rural School and Nehawka School before graduating from Plattsmouth High School in 1955.  She attended Peru State Teacher’s College and taught at various rural schools in Cass and Otoe counties until she retired in 1976.   Ruth worked for Doctor Anderson, Nebraska City Manor and the Nebraska City Antique Store as well as helping her husband on the farm.  Ruth enjoyed playing the guitar, writing poetry, golfing and bowling.  She was a long-time member of the Nehawka Methodist Church and was in the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School.  Survivors include her children, Lynette (John) Thompson of Murray, Neil (Cheryl) Johnson of Nehawka, Rhonda (Brian) Earith of Plattsmouth and Tod (Angie) Johnson of Amery, WI; grandchildren, Kelly Farmer, Richard (Danielle) Swim, Emily (Shawn) Vincent, Ryan (Madi) Earith, Alesha Johnson, Cooper Johnson, Michelle (Jo) Crook, Nichole (Shawn) Powers and Nolan (Caitlin) Snyder; nineteen great grandchildren; brother in law, Harold Johnson; sisters in law, Janet Bruns, Donna  Johnson, Virginia Ketter; many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Johnson; sisters, Miriam Payton, Florence Raboldt; brothers, Joy Haswell, Gene Haswell and Dale Bruns.

 

 

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 11, 2023 at the Nehawka United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Nehawka.

 

The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 10th at the church.
