NEBRASKA CITY - The Nebraska City City Council committed $250,000 in city funds as a match to the proposed $680,000 street improvement project of Fifth Rue from Fifth Terrace to the existing concrete on Oakview Drive.

The project was recommended by  the Kearney Hill Revitalization Committee. Committee member Rex Nelson said Kearney Hill is an area that has been overlooked and under invested in many ways, but the street and sidewalk improvements would be a tremendous help.

Committee member Patricia Coates also wrote in support of the grant application saying the top priorities for residents are:

  1. Lighting, signs and sidewalks
  2. Abandoned houses
  3. Improved roads

The city council also approved a grant application for two more pickleball courts at Steinhart Park.
