Man from El Salvador sentenced to more than one year in prison
After failing to register as a sex offender, a man from El Salvador was sentenced to prison.
OMAHA, Neb. -- After failing to register as a sex offender, a man from El Salvador was sentenced to prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said Jorge Miranda-Funes, of El Salvador, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Wednesday. He was convicted for failure to register as a sex offender and illegal reentry after a felony conviction. Miranda-Funes will serve 18 months in prison with a five-year term of supervised release after and faces deportation. There is no parole in the federal prison system.
Court documents state that Miranda-Funes was required to register as a sex offender after a 2022 conviction for attempted child abuse in Douglas County.
Officials said Miranda-Funes was taken from the U.S. and moved to El Salvador. He illegally came back to the U.S. and lived in Omaha for two months without updating his sex offender registration address.
This case was investigated by the United States Marshal’s Service and the Department of Homeland Security.
