Huff N Puff doubles the tractor pull action
TECUMSEH – Huff N Puff Garden Tractor Pulling organizer Ben Walters reacted to high temperatures and a scattered audience at the Johnson County Fair Sunday with an “everything, all at once” attitude.
Walters: “Basically what we’re doing, we’re going to have a tractor going down the track all the time.”
Huff N Puff brought its old sled out of retirement for the 800-pound classes and used its new sled for the 1,000-pound classes.
Walters: “Normally we have a crowd of people, spectators come and they only stick around for an hour, hour and a half, two hours, so they don’t get to watch the good tractors – I’m not saying the good tractors, the bigger tractors with more horsepower – so what we thought, since we’re close to home, we would bring the old sled out. We’re going to run the kids class, the kids 700 first, and, at the same time, we’re going to do the 1,000-pound class.
“That way, if we’ve got spectators, they’re going to be able to see both worlds. We’ll put on a better show for them. And I think if we can get more people to be interested and watch us, the word is going to go out , we’re going to end up with more pullers.”
They ran two tracks over the three-hour event, with an audience clinging to a line of fairgrounds shade.
