OMAHA, Neb. -- A man from California received 15 years in prison for a drug- and firearm-related conviction that occurred in Omaha.

Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 45-year-old Robert Culberson, of California, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Tuesday. He was convicted for possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. Culberson will serve 120 months in prison for the drug charge and a consecutive 60 months in prison on the firearm charge, for a total of 180 months. He will also have a five-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, Omaha Police Department officers were doing surveillance on co-defendant Kashaun Lockett’s home in Omaha on June 14, 2021. They set up a controlled buy from Lockett for meth.

Officials said officers treed to do a traffic stop on Lockett but he fled from police. Culberson was seen at Lockett’s home at this time. Officers found out through surveillance that Culberson left the residence and threw unknown items into the tree line at the back of the property. Lockett’s home was searched, and 121 grams of meth was found.

Authorities said Culberson and co-defendant Gary Lockett, who was also outside the Omaha home, were detained while officers went to the tree line to investigate. Officers found 197 grams of meth and a Glock pistol from the tree line near where Culberson was seen tossing the items.

Kashaun and Gary Lockett are scheduled for trial on Oct. 2, 2023.
