PAWNEE CITY – The Pawnee County Fair continued Thursday with the annual fair parade, which was led into the fairgrounds by the American Legion color guard.

They were followed by the Pawnee City school marching band.

The biggest vehicle was a trencher, but there were plenty of tiny vehicles too.

The Pawnee County Ambulance is raffling off an ATV to get a new ambulance. 300 tickets were sold and the winner announced Sunday at the 52nd annual tractor pull.

The 2023 parade theme is Big Dreams in a Small Town.

2023 Fair Queen 17-year-old Leah Christen of Steinauer rode her horse Roo in the parade.

Christen: “My favorite part about the fair is just seeing all the people and getting to show off all of my hard work through all my animals.”

Winners of the apple pie contest were announced Friday. Lori Barr and Janell Sommerhalder were first and second the adult division  and Parker Scheutz and Hazel Stake got top ribbons in the youth division.
