Library reports good turnout for summer bingo

SYRACUSE – Kyle Hauschild of the Nemaha NRD presented water concerns at the July Syracuse City Council meeting.
Hauschild said a two-year drought is making a water table a concern for the rural water board. Syracuse water users were placed on watering restrictions on June 28.
Officers for the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department were confirmed with Keith McWilliams as chief and Craig Hemji, Darin Lintner and Craig Boldt as assistant chiefs. Other officers are Adam Holz, Tim Seelhoff, Matt Weddingfeld, Justin Apel, and Chris Lutjemeyer. Skylar Argo, Scott Wiebusch and Dave Sabatka are the stewards.
K & J Elite will be making improvements on fields C and D at the Syracuse Complex, at the cost of $21,130.
Justin Stark of Olsson and Sonni Graves gave an update on the walking/biking trail that encompasses the Syracuse complex with the soccer fields. They are working on drainage issues in the playground and dugout C area. Stark said cleaning out the ditches would help with water run off.
Yong Construction was awarded the bid for the 11th and Swanson Drive crossing improvements.
Mayor Dettmer and City council members commended Melissa Juilfs, the new library director, on enticing more kids and adults to use the library. Summer Bingo for ages K through 12 has 160 kids signed up to date. Adult bingo is also offered.
Julie Beach of Project Playground was given permission to go forward with an adult swim night at the aquatic center. On Friday Aug. 11th from 6 to 10 p.m. Adult beverages will be sold by the Beer Stein. This event is closed to minors.
