One killed, two injured in three-vehicle accident near Plattsmouth

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. -- Authorities have released new information about a three-vehicle accident that killed an eight-year-old boy and critically injured a woman and girl near Plattsmouth.
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office said a blue 2009 Hyundai Sonata was going west on Highway 34, just west of Harlan Lewis Road, around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Deputies said the driver of the Sonata lost control of the vehicle and went into the eastbound traffic lanes. The Sonata reportedly collided with a white 2015 Dodge Ram pick-up truck that was going east.
According to authorities, a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck from Plattsmouth was also going east and hit the Sonata after the Sonata's first collision.
Police said a passenger in the Sonata, eight-year-old Paxton Parker of Glenwood, Iowa, was declared dead at the scene. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, and the nine-year-old front seat passenger of the Sonata were reportedly taken to a nearby hospital and are currently in critical condition.
Neither of the drivers of the semi-truck or the pick-up were injured in the collisions, authorities said.
SCSO said the weather conditions were poor at the time of the accident due to the heavy rain. The road was closed as they investigated the scene but have since been reopened.
The crash is currently under investigation.
