SIDNEY, IA --  4-Hers developed riding skills at the Waubonsie Horse Camp at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Sidney, Iowa.

24 kids from fourth 12th grade spent several hours on their horses in the horsemanship clinic.

In-the-saddle participants brought their own horses in order to develop their riding skills. They participated in showmanship and reining.

Clinic topics included grooming, showmanship and nutrition. Kids made their own rope halters.

This year, campers were also given a basic first aid demonstration before packing their own first aid starter kit to take home for use on their horses.

Fremont County 4-H Horse Superintendent Ashley Smith said there were eight more participants for the overnight event this year.
