Otoe County veteran of the month

NEBRASKA CITY - Otoe County Veteran Service Officer Chad Miller introduced Gary Hobbie as the veteran of the month at today’s county board meeting.
Hobbie is a 1964 Nebraska City graduate and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was awarded a purple heart, combat infantry badge and Vietnam Service Medal.
He worked 30 years with the Omaha Public Power District. He and his wife Peggy have five children, 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is adjutant and quartermaster for the VFW post and an active member of the American Legion.
The county board also appointed John Chisolm to the county’s veteran service committee.
The May veteran of the month was Thomas Grooman, a 1967 graduate of Nebraska City High School who served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
