Syracuse council receives master plan for courts at Williams Park
SYRACUSE – The Syracuse City council meeting began with a report from Sheriff Colin Caudill reporting they had seven disturbance calls, six of which were from one person. There were 14 traffic stops and 2 traffic complaints.
Councilman Jerry Werner stated to Sheriff Caudill that he had been receiving calls regarding abuse of school permits,
There have also been reports of many ATV's , Go carts, etc. on the streets , unpermitted.. The public is not permitting their vehicle each year, using the old permit.
Werner suggested the city look into a different color of stickers for each year to have an easy visual on the permit..
Next on the agenda was discussions with Sheriff Caudill regarding the Otoe County Sheriff's interlocal agreement.
Sheriff Caudill fielded many questions from City attorney Jerry Stilmock and Mayor Dettmer regarding hours for the city of Syracuse. Signing of the contract was tabled at this time, allowing city council members to gather more information.
Justin Stark, engineer for Olsson, spoke regarding the master plan for Williams Park north side of 11th Street. The council approved the work order for the final design of the basketball and pickleball courts for $11,000. . An estimated cost of this area is to be around $74,000.
Stark stated the price of concrete is on the rise, which will be the majority of the cost.
Project playground update was presented by Sonni Graves. The committee has raised $118,000, the total cost of the playground is $450,000. The picnic shelter at the new sand volleyball court area is almost complete.
The city continues to collect more data regarding solid waste services for the city. There was no contract signed at last night's meeting.
The Utilities department was granted $41,250 for the electrical distribution improvement agreement, replacing old wiring around town.
The street closures were approved for the wrestling event on 5th Street on Aug. 6th, county fair parade on July 29th, as well as the closure for Mohawk Street from 11th to 12 for June 26-30th.
