Chicken artists signal start to Father's Day barbecue at Johnson

JOHNSON - The Johnson Chamber of Commerce has announced winners of the annual chicken coloring contest.

Winners age five and under are Jovie Behrends, Corbin Meyer, Lindsey Jones and Easton Davis.

Winners age 10 and and under are Titus Baltensperger, Erin Casey, Calihan Murphy, Pressley Davis and Harper Volker.

Lauren Casey was first for age 11, Layla Miller for age 12 and Kasie Knipplemeyer for age 13. The adult placers were Jan Gerdes and Bruce Sohnholtz. Most original adult was Julie Lambert.

Other most original awards went to Ruger Caspers, Maguire Motz, Sadie Gossman, Carson Behrends, Jayde Hahn, Kinsley Caspers, Jace Behrends, Brecken Ottemann, Bristol Dalinghause, Marleigh Behrends and Carrie Johnson.

Father’s Day birthdays include Duane Palmer, Steve Rademacher and Trevor Kahland.

Saturday events at Johnson includes a men’s slowpitch tournament, co-ed sand volleyball, 5K and 1 mile runs and alumni banquet.

Sunday events include motorcycle display, car show, antique tractors, cornhole, scavenger hunt, cake walk and ice cream. The barbecue is served from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The Southeast Community Band plays from 6 to 7 p.m.
