Cooper booked in Douglas County to face 2015 murder charges

OMAHA, Neb. -- Authorities said that a man arrested for a 2015 double-murder has been moved to Omaha to face those charges.
The Omaha Police Department said that the Metro Fugitive Task Force transported 35-year-old Cavin Cooper to Omaha on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Cooper was booked at Douglas County Corrections for two counts of first-degree murder and use of a gun to commit a felony.
Authorities arrested Cooper in December of last year, in connection to the 2015 murders of Diondre Mitchell and Lafayette Reed.
The murders of Mitchell and Reed had been deemed a cold case until Coopers arrest in 2022.

Officers were called to investigate a shooting May 5, 2015 around 4:40 a.m. in the 3200 block of N 28th St.
OPD said that officers found two unresponsive men, Mitchell and Reed, in the kitchen of the residence. Both men were declared dead at the scene.
