NEBRASKA CITY - It wasn't the cleanest game in the world, but that's expected when a blizzard delayed Friday's C2-2 subdistrict championship by 24 hours. Cold shooting at times, a week's worth of turnovers and timely baskets added to the drama as No. 2 seed Lincoln Lutheran knocked off No. 1 seed Lourdes Central Catholic 37-36 in a game that came down to the final 3.6 seconds.

Leading by one with less than 40 seconds left, Lincoln Lutheran was trapped in the backcourt, but somehow senior forward Erika Young was left all alone under the basket on the far side of the floor. The Warriors got the ball to Young for an uncontested lay in to go up 37-34.

The Knight's (16-9) Aspen Meyer raced down the floor to hit a 10-foot jumper to make it a one score game with less than two seconds left. The problem? The clock operator never stopped the clock after either teams basket allowing precious time to trickle away.

The officials after a long meeting only added about four seconds back on the clock, resetting it to 6.8 seconds with Lutheran set to inbound under Lourdes basket.

The Warriors (12-12) attempted to throw a long baseball-style pass the length of the floor, but Meyer read it beautifully for Lourdes, intercepting the pass and calling timeout with 3.6 seconds left.

But the Knight's luck ran out there as Meyer couldn't get a shot off on the final possession giving the Warriors the one-point win.

Lutheran led 22-18 at halftime and took its largest lead at 24-18 after Jamison Wahl knocked in a pair of free throws on the opening possession of the second half. Wahl had 10 points and eight from the foul line as the Warriors attempted to pull away.

It was on the next Warriors possession where Wahl landed awkwardly and needed to be carried to the training room. She would not return after suffering a serious knee injury. Over the next 6:55 of game time, the Knight's went on a 9-0 run taking a 27-24 lead into the fourth quarter as the Warriors scored just two points--Wahl's free throws--in the third.

Elsa Meyer tied the game at 27 with a 3-pointer for Lincoln Lutheran and then Jenna Luebbe--who knocked down three 3s--converted a three-point play with 3:44 to play giving it a 30-28 lead.

The teams then traded baskets and free throws down the stretch until Meyer couldn't get the final shot off to win the game on the final possession of the Knights season. She finished tied for the team-high with 11 points along with Jenna Box.

Luebbe had 12 for the Warriors and Wahl finished with 10 in just two quarters and one minute of game action as they advanced to the district championship. Lincoln Lutheran will travel to Oakland-Craig for a shot at the state tournament next Friday, Feb. 24.
