WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Flood offered floor remarks on a congressional resolution denouncing socialism.

Rep. Flood said many refugees of socialistic regimes have migrated to Nebraska and others have come to escape religious persecution by the Chinese Community Party.

He said Vietnamese is the third most-spoken language in Nebraska due to immigration in the 1970s.

Flood: "History shows that when socialism is tried it leads to three things: poverty, devastation and ultimately communism. As Vladimir Lenin once said, 'The goal of socialism is communism.'

Flood criticized North Korea for 180,000 political prisoners, Venezuela for 20,000 deaths linked to 'resisting authority' and Cuba for jailing journalists and artists.

Flood: "Socialism is anathema not just to free enterprise, but human rights."

The resolution says socialism has led to famine and mass murders and the killing of over 100 million people worldwide.
