PAWNEE CITY  - A $250,000 bond was set in Pawnee County court for a man accused of domestic assault and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

An arrest affidavit filed by Sheriff Braden Lang claims the family of  31-year-old Joshua Hatfield will be in "grave danger" if he is released from custody.

The sheriff says a Department of Health and Human Services intake form and his office’s investigation includes allegations of violence.

An affidavit describes a New Year's Day incident alleging that Hatfield put the butt of a gun on the floor and the barrel under his chin while his children could watch. After they pleaded for him not to shoot himself, the affidavit says, he pointed the gun at the family members, who had retreated to a corner of a dining room.

The sheriff’s office says Hatfield is not allowed to possess a gun because of a felony conviction.
