SIDNEY - A day after a strong winter storm dumped 18 inches of snow in Banner County, and shutdown roads across the southern Nebraska Panhandle and northeast Colorado, the first highway reopened Thursday morning.

The highways between Sidney, Neb. and Sterling, Colo. (Hwy. 19 and Hwy. 119) reopened at 10:44 a.m., but the Nebraska Department of Transportation advised the highway was still partially covered in snow. 

All roads that were closed in the Nebraska Panhandle and northeast Colorado have reopened, including Highway 30, Interstate 80 and Interstate 76. 

WeatherEye Meteorologist Ray Miller says Chappell received 16 inches of snow, Scottsbluff and Sidney got 12 inches, and Iliff, Colo ended up with 9.3 inches. Kimball had 8.8 inches and Redington with 8.5 inches.
