Police: USPS vehicle strikes, kills bicyclist in Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. -- Authorities say an Omaha bicyclist is dead after being struck by a U.S. Postal Service vehicle Friday.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., officers were called to the area of Saddle Creek Road and California Street.
OPD says an investigation revealed that a semi-straight truck belonging to USPS was pulling out of the branch at 608 N. Saddle Creek when the truck struck a bicyclist, later identified as 46-year-old Gregory Whitedress.
Passersby and the 57-year-old driver performed CPR on Whitedress until Omaha Fire Department medics arrived. OFD medics transported Whitedress to Nebraska Medicine with life-saving measures in progress. Whitedress was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by the Omaha Police Traffic Unit.
