A 28-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison along with forfeiting thousands for drug trafficking.
OMAHA, Neb. -- A 28-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison along with forfeiting thousands for drug trafficking.
The U.S. Attorney announced that Thomas J. Trouba was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Omaha for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).
United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher sentenced Trouba to 120 months in prison and ordered him to forfeit his home and pickup truck as property facilitating the offense, and more than $400,000 as drug trafficking proceeds.
After his release from prison, Trouba will begin a 3-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Court documents said that on September 18, 2020, in Omaha, Trouba was arrested for terroristic threats and for placing a false bomb outside of the Douglas County Courthouse.
Later that day, an investigator observed Trouba and a woman removing large totes and bags from his residence and loading them into his 2013 Ford F-150.
After they finished loading the pickup, officials said the defendant departed the residence and the woman followed in her car.
After driving for a few minutes, they pulled over and stopped in a parking lot where deputies approached and identified them.
Investigators said they searched Touba’s truck and seized several hundred thousand dollars in U.S. currency. Investigators also seized multi-pound quantities of raw marijuana, marijuana edibles, and various substances containing delta-9 THC and other THC extracts.
According to court records, investigators then obtained a warrant to search defendant’s residence at an address on Elm Circle, in Omaha. The search yielded the discovery of about $16,982, and quantities of 3,4-MDMA (or ecstasy), Adderall, hash oil, marijuana, and paraphernalia relating to the distribution of narcotics.
More currency was recovered from the apartment of the woman who accompanied Trouba on September 18, 2020, during a court-authorized search on September 23, 2020.
This case was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration, Omaha Division.
