OPD: standoff ends with man safely taken into custody

OMAHA, Neb. -- Authorities in the metro area said they were in a standoff with an armed man for several hours before they were able to take him into custody.
The Omaha Police Department said that an armed standoff with a man that ended peacefully Tuesday.
The standoff was near 78th St. and Crown Point Ave., and OPD Detectives said around 9 a.m. they were trying to serve a court authorized search warrant at the residence.
OPD said that at that point the 41-year-old man allegedly exited the residence with a firearm.
Police said that the man walked east into Mt. Sinai Cemetery, while allegedly making suicidal statements.
A perimeter was put into place said OPD. Authorities said that after several hours of negotiations with the man, they had safely taken him into custody.
He was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated due to the cold, police said.
OPD said charges are pending from the original investigation.
