WEEPING WATER, Neb. -- Southeast Nebraska firefighters battled a house fire in frigid temperatures early Thursday morning.

Weeping Water Fire Chief Daryl Ervin said a caller reported the fire after noticing the blaze while getting ready for work.

Firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they reported seeing the upstairs area engulfed in flames.

Tankers from Louisville, Elmwood and Avoca responded, with fire crews reporting slick conditions and sub-zero temperatures making it difficult.

Firefighters used torches to thaw couplers to connect hoses to the fire trucks.

Fire units were on scene for approximately five hours.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal says electrical wiring was to blame. No injuries were reported.
