DPS: No evidence of serial killer after search near Thurman
Array of experts say no items of concern discovered after three-day search
THURMAN - The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports that no evidence was found in the latest excavations in Fremont County where Lucy Studey McKiddy alleged her father buried the bodies of young women she says he had murdered.
A press release says state and federal law enforcement agencies assisted Fremont County officials over the past three days with an array of experts representing several disciplines and assets, but no evidence or items of concern were recovered.
The press release says soil samples from a site identified by a reporting party were examined.
An online news agency reported in October that cadaver dogs alerted to suspected human remains at locations identified by McKiddy. The woman claimed her father killed five or six women a year over several decades and buried them in and around an abandoned well on his property near Thurman.
The Des Moines Register reports that McKiddy told them she was notified by law enforcement that the search was called off due to bad weather.
Her father, Donald Dean Studey, died in 3013.
