OMAHA, Neb. -- A 28-year-old Omaha man was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for a drug charge.

Acting U.S. Attorney Steven Russell announced that Abraham Jose Alvarenga was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Omaha for conspiracy to distribute meth.

The U.S. District Court Judge sentenced Alvarenga to 94 months in prison.

After completing his sentence, Alvarenga will be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release because there is no parole in the federal system.

Officials said that on Sept. 14, 2020, a DEA agent working in an undercover capacity coordinated a purchase of about 396 grams of methamphetamine at a South Omaha gas station - the meet location.

At the meet location, the undercover agent was approached by Alvarenga and a co-defendant, German Reyes Jr. Alvarenga got into the undercover agent’s car and sold the agent the meth while Reyes walked into the gas station.

On Nov. 9, 2020, another co-defendant, Andres Cruz, sold the undercover agent an additional 295 grams of meth and was arrested on Nov. 16, 2020, when he was found in possession of another 896 grams of meth. The investigation showed that both Cruz and Alvarenga were distributing the meth on behalf of Reyes.

Cruz was sentenced to 51 months in prison on Jan.14, 2022. Reyes was sentenced to 188 months in prison on Sept. 22, 2022.
