PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County commissioners are contemplating a public hearing to discuss closing up to three railroad crossings in exchange for a new at-grade crossing of the tracks for the new bridge in Louisville.
The state has proposed closing a Mill Road crossing and Commissioner Dan Henry suggested allocating $100,000 to Manley for closing a crossing east of town.
Both of those proposals have been drawn a negative reaction to local motorists.
At a recent county board meeting, Henry said the village feels closing the crossing would limit future growth of the village.
County Road Superintendent Lenny Thorne said there has been negative feedback for the Mill Road crossing.
Commissioner Dale Sharp said there is so much traffic in Cass County now, there is likely to be negative response to any proposed closing.
A public hearing is scheduled Dec. 20 regarding the 156th and Mill Road crossing.
