Omaha Police investigating incident involving off-duty officer
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Omaha Police Department said Tuesday morning that internal investigators are looking into an incident involving an off-duty officer.
The officer under investigation for the Sunday incident has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, which was authorized by OPD Chief Todd Schmaderer, according to the OPD release.
An OPD spokesman said the incident involves Officer William Klees.
A person with the same name as the victim named in an OPD report posted on social media about an incident involving a man she said was Klees.
According to the police report filed just after midnight Sunday, a woman living near 20th and Nicholas St. told officers that a man in her apartment building had been throwing trash on her car and said she had observed him doing so. She also said she confronted the man, who eventually walked into his apartment.
According to the police report, she also provided a recording to police, which the responding officers confirmed was footage of a man walking away from the victim’s vehicle, which had trash on it. They also saw footage of the man walking into an apartment.
According to the report, the officers tried unsuccessfully to make contact with the man in the video.
Officers provided the victim with a report number and information about how to obtain a protection order, the report states.
