FALLS CITY - An Iowa real estate and auction company is reporting a record-breaking price for Nebraska farmland sold in Richardson County.

DreamDirt Auctioneers took a top bid of $27,400 an acre for 116 acres for the Pupkes Estate.

DreamDirt.Com posted the news with auctioneer Jason Smith saying he was confident the soil quality and its proximity to Falls City would play a factor in pricing.

The price exceeds a record set in Iowa’s Plymouth County recently at $26,250 per acre.

According to a 2022 University of Nebraska report, land in Richardson County averages just under $10,000 an acre. DreamDirt says good, tillable farmland has been selling up to $13,000 an acre.

DreamDirt says there has been significant competition for farmland in the area and a good crop on the land this year.

The company says farmers were bidding against farmers with no investor or developer influence in the price.

In her will, Marie Pupkes directed proceeds to be distributed among her six children.
