Palmyra football headlines school wide athletic success

PALMYRA - Panthers quarterback Drew Erhart was hitting on all cylinders Thursday in the season finale against Freeman, leading a dominate second half offensive attack to end the season at 7-1.
Despite trailing 12-8 at the half, Erhart and Palmyra exploded for a 36-point second half to secure a 44-26 victory. Erhart completed 16-of-24 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for an additional 129 yards.
Running back Alex Hatcher had 124 yards on the ground himself while receivers Hunter Pope and Jacson Dillon combined for 12 receptions, 198 yards and two touchdowns.
The win provided the exclamation point to what was a tremendous week all around for the Panther athletic programs. Palmyra had an impressive showing last week in cross country, football and volleyball.
The girl's cross country team finished as the runner-up at districts, punching its ticket to the state championships while the boys team qualified two runners in seniors Chandler Berry and Drew Moyer. The girls' team has five participants in Bettie Chambers (10), Emily Frey (11), Kinsley Havranek (11), Hailey Hengtgen (9) and Natalie Leahy (9). Both teams are coached by Sadie Conn.
The action gets underway in Kearney on Friday, Oct. 21.
The volleyball team won the East Central Nebraska Conference volleyball tournament, defeating Freeman in five sets 25-15, 25-19, 16-25, 28-30, 15-11. The championship victory was the Panthers first conference volleyball title since 2010. Palmyra was the No. 1 overall seed and defeated Auburn and Johnson County Central in the opening rounds.
Sticking with volleyball, the junior high programs' A, B and C teams all won on the road at Conestoga.
