Two Pioneers qualify for state cross country championships

NEBRASKA CITY - District cross country took place across various locations for all classifications Thursday and Nebraska City produced a state qualifier on the boy's side and the girl's side.
In B-1, junior Mason Houghton turned in a stellar time of 17:11.0 to finish 11th. Nebraska City as a team finished in fifth (71) in the district with Mount Michael taking the team title and Blair the runner up.
On the girl's side, freshman Josslyn Crispin finished in the top 15 at 13th, with a race time of 21:30.70. It was a fifth-place overall finish overall for the girls as well with a score of 77.
Both will move on and represent Nebraska City at the state meet on Oct. 21 at the Kearney Country Club. Class B boys begin at 2:30 p.m. while the Class B girls have an official start time of 3:30 p.m.
