Omaha man sentenced for meth and firearm convictions

An Omaha man was sentenced Wednesday to more than 10 years in prison for meth and firearm related convictions.

OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha man was sentenced Wednesday to more than 10 years in prison for meth and firearm related convictions. 

The Acting United States Attorney announced that 31-year-old Dontevis Morrow of Omaha was sentenced on in federal court for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and felon in possession of a firearm.

The United States District sentenced Morrow to 130 months in prison. After his release from prison, Morrow will begin a four-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Court documents said on Sept. 14, 2020, Morrow sold a .45 caliber Derringer handgun to a cooperating witness working with law enforcement. As a convicted felon he is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms.

A grand jury indicted Morrow in March 2021, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Feb. 2, 2022, Omaha Police stopped a vehicle traveling on Fort St. with a non-functional brake light.

It was reported that officers figured out Morrow was driving with a suspended license and also had a federal warrant for his arrest related to the indictment. Morrow consented to a search of his person and a bag of methamphetamine was found in his pant leg.

Court documents said that lab testing confirmed the bag contained 56.482 grams of meth.
